The reason is easy to say: located in one of the islands of the north eastern part of the Caribbean, the Princess Juliana International Airport, has a single landing and take-off runway, number 10, while number 28 is definitely out of order, due to the mountains that dominate behind it.
Runway 10 of the airport is located near Maho Beach on the Atlantic Ocean and is just over 2000 meters long, basically just enough length to allow a Boeing 747 to take off.
The characteristic of this airport is that people on the beach see the racing cars whizzing over their heads with deafening noises and a very evident jet blast phenomenon, that is a very strong blast of air.
The spectacle of the passage of airplanes is so extraordinary that it almost amuses the tourists, who swim in the crystalline Caribbean waters under a sky crossed by giant racing cars. Yet on the enchanting beach of Maho Beach you can find signs that warn swimmers of the danger, recommending to be careful and indicating the arrival times of the planes.
