Crew Management: the community directive on the obligation of Support Program for airlines and airport companies has been implemented

The community directive that foresees the obligation of the SUPPORT PROGRAM for the airlines and airport companies.
The implementation of the related regulatory provisions is aimed at the organizations involved and sensitive personnel for the following areas:

  • Flight Safety (Safety)
  • Security and Air Transport and are intended for subjects operating in the APT sectors (Airports)
  • ATM (Airspace)
  • EAL (Economic, Administrative Legal)
  • LIC (Flight Personnel)
  • MED (Aeronautical Medicine)
  • NAV (Initial and Continuous Navigability)
  • OPV (Flight Operations)
  • SEC (Security).

A special will be issued shortly ENAC circular which contextualizes the codified norms and the debate that has been created around them in the Italian context, since these are topics that have an impact on the culture of the organizations concerned.

But what is a support program?
A support program, reads the disclosure note, "It is a set of measures that operators must put in place to allow, facilitate and ensure the access of pilots to peer support or, where appropriate, to the support of a mental health professional in order to address and overcome any problems that may affect the ability to safely exercise the privileges of their license ".

"The establishment of the support program is the responsibility of commercial air transport operators, the suppliers of air traffic assistance services as well as other organizations that will consider the activation of these programs useful and appropriate for the well-being of their personnel" .

Support programs must be prepared and / or extended for the benefit of:

  1. Commercial air transport licensed pilots
  2. Flight attendants
  3. Air traffic controllers
  4. Maintainers.
