And so there was no "clearance" for some of the "emotional support animals“: American Airlines has drawn up a list of animals prohibited in flight, which will come into effect on 1 June.
In the "black" book there are insects, goats, hedgehogs, ferrets, reptiles, generally the "animals with fangs", which cannot be used as emotional support for the most anxious passengers.
The request to bring their beloved pets on board the planes only saw an increase in the 40% between 2016 and 2017, an aspect that led to the American company to take the first restrictive measures.
While supporting i passenger rights with a legitimate need for trained or supportive animals, American Airlines points out the real risks of bringing certain species on board.
Untrained animals are not allowed, as they can lead to safety issues for the team. Furthermore, the owners are still obliged to present a certificate filled in by their doctor, which certifies the real medical need of an animal on board. This must now also be delivered well in advance, so as to allow the necessary checks.
Not only that: from now on, passengers will have the obligation to sign forms in which they guarantee that they have trained animals. Animals must be kept on a leash or otherwise tied for the duration of the flight.
