Rotterdam, one of the largest ports in the world

porto di rotterdam accademia del lavoro

The port of Rotterdam is the largest in Europe and one of the largest ports in the world, even the largest until 2004, when it was overtaken by Singapore and Shanghai.
Over 40 kilometers long, it is almost the size of a city in its own right and its importance is due to its special position, which can accommodate even the largest ships, which are able to access the bay directly from the sea.
Built in 1325, it is the oldest port of Rotterdam, and today it represents an efficient combination of past and future, a very important port of call from which millions of tons of goods destined for Italy come.
The port is located on the banks of the river Nieuwe Maas and was destroyed during the bombings of World War II.

Rebuilt later, today it represents an important transit point between the European continent and other parts of the world.
The ranking of the most important ports in the world today counts 10 ports. The list is based on the estimate TEU (Twenty-foot equivalent unit) which is the equivalent unit of twenty feet, which is the standard measure of volume in the transport of ISO containers, which corresponds to approximately 40 total cubic meters.
