Interview with Massimo Vargiu, student of the course of Airport Terminal Attendant

Aeroporto di Cagliari - addetto scalo aeroportuale

Massimo's story is proof that it is never too late to pursue your dreams. At 46, after a professional life in a completely different sector, taking advantage of a year of transition, Massimo decides to brush up on his boyhood dream, that of working at the airport, in a dynamic and international environment.

Searching on Google he discovers the airport attendant course organized by our academy, fill out the information request form and are immediately contacted by a didactic consultant. The course program fully meets his expectations, the course venue is absolutely exceptional - the Alitalia training center - the cost is right, so he decides to enroll.
In April 2015 he attended the classroom phase at Fiumicino and his expectations are even exceeded. The level of the teachers and the quality of the training received leave him pleasantly satisfied.

After the course he returns to Sardinia and begins to send CVs to the three airports on the island. Alghero (closest to his home), Olbia and Cagliari. After a few weeks he is contacted
from one of the handling companies of the Cagliari airport, GH Cagliari which offers him participation in a series of specific training courses on the computer systems in use in the various airports and on the procedures to be followed as a check-in and boarding officer and as a Lost and Found employee. Plus a course on cargo safety and handling of dangerous goods.

Massimo's seriousness and professionalism are appreciated and in mid-May 2016 they offered him the hiring for the summer period at the GH Cagliari and then at the Sogaerdyn, the other handling company operating in the main Sardinian airport. He will work in the Lost and found office.
But let's hear from his words the story of this experience:

MV: “I have always had this desire, since I was a boy, to work in the airport environment. Despite the age no longer youthful, let's say, I still wanted to try. And I was very happy to have succeeded, above all thanks to the training course done with the Accademia del Lavoro ”.

“At the airport, especially in the Lost and Found office, there is a lot of work. You know when you enter and you don't know when you leave, because you have to wait until the last flight has landed and the last baggage has been delivered. There are very hard days, and even long ones, but there are also a lot of satisfactions. We also take care of unaccompanied minors and items lost on board ”.

"It's also hard work from an emotional point of view, because you almost always have to deal with angry or worried people and you have to approach the public in a certain way, but perhaps also thanks to my maturity and previous work experience it was quite good to me ".

“I got along very well with all my colleagues and I must say that the airport environment is just as I imagined, it has been a tiring but thrilling three months. I know that in this period my work has been well judged and I am confident of receiving other calls, from Cagliari airport, or perhaps from the airports in the north of the island, which are certainly closer to where I live ”.

“I thank all the Accademia del Lavoro staff for helping me make this dream come true. For me it was very important ”.
