Ramp Agent

The Ramp Agent is an airport figure that operates on the runway in order to supervise all activities that take place before the departure of the flight. It has a crucial role in that it acts as a link between the commander of the plane and all those who work inside the terminal. In particular, it is in close contact with the individual actors to coordinate activities ranging from loading and unloading baggage in compliance with the aircraft balance, to the transit of passengers up to maintenance activities.

Tasks and competences

The Ramp Agent is responsible for the following activities:

  • It provides a central point of coordination for all ground activities and operational teams, including the flight crew.
  • Guarantees compliance with the transit and departure times (PTS - Precision Time Schedule) of the airport
  • It guarantees flight safety (Safety and Security), performance, processes and procedures.
  • Blocks turnaround activities that do not comply with safety and security procedures and operational processes.
  • In some situations, the Turnaround coordinator assumes supervisory responsibility, while in others the roles are divided and assigned to specific individuals.
  • It can be responsible for several flights at the same time.

In particular:

  • Oversees refueling operations
  • Checks loading/unloading baggage and disembarking/embarking passengers
  • It requires maintenance activities and the De-icing and Anti-icing of the aircraft
  • Catering
  • Check whether special assistance is needed
  • Verify that activities are carried out regularly
  • Verify compliance with security protocols
  • Guarantees the closing of all doors and the clearing of the runway
  • Coordinates start-up and towing of aircraft

Career opportunities

The Rampa Agent works within the airport management companies, in favour of companies that provide air transport services and handling companies, both domestic and international.

Course steps

The theoretical-practical lessons aimed at issuing the following certifications, are organized according to different training steps:

Preparatory Phase

  • 14-hour introductory course of Videolessons on an e-learning platform relating to the Airport System with supporting handouts in digital format;
  • handouts of basic and technical English in digital format;
  • Gofluent English language course lasting 3 months “all you can learn” formula. If you already have at least a B2 level of self-certified English, you can choose another of the following languages: French, Spanish, German, Chinese (Mandarin), Portuguese (Brazilian), Dutch, Russian and Italian.

Classroom phase:

  • classroom course with frontal lessons in full-immersion (8 hours a day).

Orientation phase:

  • Orientation to work and dissemination of the professional profile with CV reworking and video-cv processing.

Course Information


Intermediate written and spoken English;
High school diploma;
Driving license B.

How to apply

To apply for the course, it is necessary to fill in the information request form on the website, with which the candidate requires to participate in the selection for the course.


For the participation in the course, there will be a selection test that includes:
- examination of the CV and motivational letter of the candidate;
- motivational and psycho-attitudinal interview with a didactic consultant;
The examining commission will communicate the outcome of the selection and admission to the Course. Subsequently, the candidate can proceed to fill in and send the application form.


The course provides for the possibility of obtaining the financing of the total participation fee. Furthermore, at the end of the course, the training institution will undertake to disseminate the curricula of the students to companies operating in the sector.

    Luis Vizzino

    Stefano Natalini

    Dr. Stefano Natalini was born in Rome in 1965, he graduated in Law and obtained a "post-graduate" Master in Criminological Sciences. He served in the State Police from 1985 to 2019, the year in which he retired in retirement with the rank of Inspector Superior. In the ranks of the State Police he obtained the Specializations of Quick Shooting Instructor, Instructor of Operational Techniques and Specialist in Security Stocks. He also obtained the IEDD and EOD NATO Bombing Specializations from the Italian Army, and the qualification of Level I Instructor for the NBCR Defense. From 2011 to 2014 he served in the Netherlands at the Counter-Terrorism Unit of the European Agency for Law Enforcement (EUROPOL), participating in numerous international investigations. In his brilliant career he was awarded a Solemn Commendation and a Word of Praise for the defusing of dangerous explosive devices. He was also named Cavaliere al Merito of the Italian Republic in 2006 and received honors from the Italian Red Cross and the Civil Protection. He speaks fluently in English (Level C1) and Spanish (Level B2). Dr. Natalini has been ENAC Certified Instructor for Airport Security since 2004.

Since 2008 he has been interested in Safety, holding the position of Auditor, and thanks to the thirty years of experience gained in the Ground area he becomes part of the Company's Safety Management System. It carries out Analysis and Investigations of Ground events. It carries out Risk Assessment on airport operational processes, and evaluates changes and new implementations. It manages and coordinates the Ground services for special and high-revenue flights: Charters for club teams, National football team, Ferrari Team, Charters for "Incentives" of imported Italian companies, State and Military Flights. Quality or Compliance Auditor. Activity carried out with the advantage of making use of a long airport experience. He was Co-Founder of the company Artincentive a DMC (Destination Management Company) to promote the incoming in Italy for the MICE tourism segment.
