Airport sector: technological innovations on the way

Important news for the airport sector comes from the event EcoConnect 2017, organized in Berlin from Huawei. Among the many issues addressed, the question posed in his speech by CEO of the IATA (International Air Transport Association): “we are moving towards a world where airports will need data scientists more than baggage handlers?”

There are essentially two relevant innovations for the airport sector: the world of connected objects and the detection of biometric data. Through new technology IoT (Internet of Things), in fact, each object will have an IP address and will be able to communicate bi-directionally with the network. So, for example, our baggage will have a display and a connectivity module, which will make it unnecessary to print the label at the airport: during check in, in fact, it will be possible to check in the baggage with the label that will appear directly on the integrated screen. . The goal of the experts is to simplify the travel experience of each customer and to make the luggage exclusively a means with which to transport our objects in a simple way, without it being a burden. Thanks to this object connection system, it will be possible to entrust your luggage to the airport system directly from home and have it delivered to your hotel room without having to drag it around the world. Obviously Huawei has thought of everyone, even the most anxious passengers: through connectivity and an app, it will be possible to continuously track the movements of our luggage, knowing the position of our suitcase at any time. On the project of the connected suitcase, based on technologies NB-IoT, Huawei is flanked by two giants like Vodafone And Samsonite.

The second project derives from the study of the degree of customer satisfaction and from the critical points highlighted by them. According to the analysis, in fact, there are three stages of the journey that contribute to drastically lower the level of customer satisfaction: security checks, passport and customs checks and the experience at the gates. What every traveler aspires to is for these phases to be smoother and faster, avoiding the stress of queues. Technology makes all this possible, through biometric recognition that allows you to relocate security checks, perhaps directly to the hotel at the time of check out. Once at the airport, just place your finger on a scanner to pass or the airport cameras will recognize us directly and open the turnstile. The speech is the same as regards the gate.

These are the main innovations released byEcoConnect 2017 but, as technology advances, we are ready to bet that there will be more soon.
