Is called "E-ferry" and it's the new electric ferry carbon neutral, which connects the island of Aeroe in the Danish part of the Baltic Sea to the mainland.
An innovation that will save the island, thanks to the largest battery park ever installed on a boat, 2000 tons of CO2.
Zero emissions for this project supported by the European initiative H2020. E-ferry is the electric ferry designed for passengers, cars, trucks and freight.
At the moment E-ferry is designed for medium-range connections, but in the short term it will also be used for long distances, about 20 nautical miles. The electric ferry features an innovative design and is energy efficient.
Equipped with light equipment, state-of-the-art materials, it features automated and high-power charging systems, a valid alternative to fossil fuel-powered ferries. Its battery park is the largest ever installed on a ship, with a maximum charging power of 4 MW.
The advantages of the electric ferry E-ferry.
E-ferry is a green ferry, which will allow a reduction not only in operating costs and travel time, but also in CO2 emissions.
It is expected that by 2020 there will be 10 examples of E-ferry, which will reach 100 by 2030. The calculated savings will be significant: between 10 and 30,000 tons of CO2 per year by 2020 and between 100 and 300,000 by 2030. With a notable "relief" for the environment, which every year suffers about 1000 million tons of CO2 deriving frominternational maritime industry.
